Rumours of a Toyota GR 86-based Lexus hybrid sports car circulate

Recent rumours out of Japan are suggesting there might be a spin-off Toyota 86 in the works by Lexus. It will be interesting to see where this could sit in the current Lexus lineup who already offer two coupes in the RC350 and RC-F and the LC500.

A leaked Lexus product plan in March 2020 didn’t make mention of any unannounced sports coupe so we could be many years away from seeing anything or it could be nothing at all.

If the Lexus 86 variant were to be a hybrid, it would be great to see them utilise the 2GR-FXE that is used in the 6th generation Toyota Crown hybrid but I think I am dreaming on that one 🙂 The 2GR-FXE is a 3.5L hybrid engine that can be found in the Lexus RX 450h, Lexus GS 450h, Toyota Crown Majesta and the Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
