Toyota have announced an addition to the GR lineup with the upcoming 2023 Toyota GR Corolla. The new car will be powered by the G16E-GTS 1.6L turbo three-cylinder rated at 224KW @ 6,500RPM and 370NM of torque. This is a seriously impressive output from such a tiny engine. It will include a 6-speed manual with rumours of an automatic transmission to also be available later on. The Toyota GR Corolla will use the GR-four all wheel drive system with different torque split preferences that the driver can select. 60-40, 50-50 and 30-70.
This is great to see Toyota adding to their sports lineup after the huge success of the Toyota 86, Toyota Supra and Toyota GR Yaris. The GR Corolla will likely be in the price point to compete with rivals such as the VW Golf R, Audi S3, Subaru WRX STi, Mercedes AMG A35. The exact price hasn’t been announced yet but one would assume the GR version would be a decent sized jump above the current top-trim Corolla option and would land it in the area of these competitors.
